Fish Types on Anna Maria Island
Anna Maria Island sports a wide variety of exotic fish you can catch from almost a variety of vantage points from docks, piers, jetties and others. In the crystal clear waters of the island you’ll find tarpon, permit, shark, grouper, redfish, cobia, and many other types of fish both inshore and offshore. Fish are plentiful on Anna Maria due to Florida saltwater license restrictions that protect fish stocks so they can be enjoyed by all for generations to come. We recommend you check out the saltwater fishing requirements and regulations before you head out on the water for a fun but environmentally friendly fishing adventure!
Anna Maria’s Best Fishing Spots
Anna Maria presents plenty of places to cast your reel. Fishing spots on Anna Maria Island come in three main categories from fishing directly on the beach, a multitude of piers and plenty of fishing charters to take you out on the waters. A standout among beach fishing is Coquina Beach. It has that much sought after “old Florida” feel but with modern amenities such as grills right on the beach. Among piers we highly recommend the Rod and Reel Pier, the legendary pier where in 1979 one determined angler caught a 1,386 pound hammerhead shark!
Charters and Tours on Anna Maria
Anna Maria Island fishing charters and tours are famous for their entertainment value and convenience for novice and expert anglers alike. Not all tours or tour guides are made the same however, that’s why Sato Real Estate keeps a close eye on past client experiences to make recommendations on who to trust out on the water for an unforgettable fishing excursion. Captain Josh Peurifoy comes highly recommended and specializes in custom sport-fishing charters. Another local favorite is Captain Aaron Lowman, who was born and raised on Anna Maria Island and is the son of Sato rental agent Jen Lowman.
