Just because you’re on vacation, it doesn’t mean you have to skip out on your fitness. If you love the feel of the trail on your feet, the sun on your back and the wind in your hair, then these six running trails on and around Anna Maria Island will be the perfect places to get a quick run in.


  • Robinson Preserve

The Robinson Preserve in Bradenton is a wooded trail that is surrounded by salt marshes and indigenous wildlife. Within the 7.5 mile loop, the preserve has four different trails that range from 0.2 miles to 3 miles. This spot ideal for runners of all levels.

  • Gulf Drive

Want to run the entire length of the island? Visit Gulf Drive – a 7-mile trail that follows the Anna Maria shoreline from top-to-tail. As you run, you’ll have plenty of time to experience the brilliant sea breeze the island has to offer. With its aquamarine waters, white sand and delicately warm temperatures, Gulf Drive is easily one of the most beautiful running routes on the island.

  • Grassy Point Preserve

Opening up at the Grassy Point Bayou, the 0.5 miles-long Grassy Point Preserve is a trail that winds its way through emerald mangroves located just along the Intracoastal waterway. It’s perfect for getting a leisurely run in while bird watching or manatee spotting.

  • Coquina Baywalk

Tired of running on the crowded Coquina Beach? Why not explore the exotic trails that Coquina Baywalk has to offer? This 0.8 mile-long trail is one of the most spectacular routes on the Leffis Key. It offers breathtaking views of the Sarasota Bay.

  • Perico Preserve

Spanning 176 acres over coastal wetlands, Perico Preserve offers one of the most unique running experiences. This 1.5 mile wooded trail is made up of deep lagoons that are spread through forest hammock islands. This unique geography makes it a challenging route. And, it wouldn’t be a surprise if you saw hundreds of gopher tortoise and shorebird nests here.

  • Bayfront Park

If trails aren’t your thing, then Bayfront Park’s 0.8 miles-long paved running path will be the best place to visit. Moving right alongside the Bay, this route offers beautiful views of the ocean on one side and stunning views of the surrounding architecture on the other. You can even run down the City Pier to get up close to the ocean.
